Dear Colleagues
Last Monday evening, we were invited to “Dream Café” in CaddeBostan Cultural Center in Istanbul. For those who do not know where it is, the address is - CKM HaldunTaner Street.11, CaddeBostan, Kadikoy- Telephone 0216- 4670387
At about 1900 hours, we chose left end corner table and ordered a good Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon and Cesar’s salad each, it was like we were in the film "Sideways" in conversation with Paul Giamatti or in "A Good Year" with Russell Crowe,
At 2200 hours, the middle tables were removed and beautiful ladies, handsome gentlemen appeared, they changed their ordinary walking shoes with dancing shoes, we understood that on Monday evenings at 2200 hours they have a regular program of “Tango Hour, dance of passion”
So our film changed and we started to watch "Shall We Dance?" with many Richard Gere- Jennifer Lopez couples dancing with passion as if they were on a rough sea.
At about 2300 hours, a young man with seeing disability (blind) with his mother (presumably) came to the café. At first he danced with his mother. Then the other ladies wanted to dance with him. He was dancing Tango with great talent, with no hesitation, no disability, with no restraint as if the dancing platform was all his
So the film again changed and we started to watch Al Pacino's "Scent Of A Woman"
At about 2400 hours while we were leaving, he was still dancing
“Dream Café" is this type of hot place where you can watch 4-films nonstop, and you do not know which backstage you are in.

Haluk,
ReplyDeleteNow you are talking. Movies are the lingua franca of the world in
this modern age. This might be the most creative work I've personally
read by you. Good job.
Next time you might want to put in more details about what you
witnessed right after you have used each movie to let us know the
theme and mood of that part of the evening. The movie reference is
the vehicle, now show us more about what the scenery that the vehicle
brought to you and in return you bring to us.
For instance, I love the part about the blind man dancing with all the
woman. What did he look like? Did he converse with them too? Which
one seemed to be his favorite and what was special about that dance?
I hope you like these ideas.
Albi
Sen galiba Istanbul'da keyif yapiyorsun. Hepimiz

Saat 1900 gibi sol dip masaya oturduk. Bir iyi sarap sectik, "Cesar's Salad"
aldik, "Sideways" Paul Giamatti veya " A Good Year" Russell Crowe, filmlerinden birindeyiz,
ve saraptan bahsediyoruz
Saat 2200 de bir anda ortadaki masalar kalkti
Guzel hanimlar - yakisikli beyler geldi, dans pabuclari cantalardan
cikarildi
ve hanimlar kirmizi yuksek topuklu pabuclar, beyler rugan pabuclar giydiler
Meger pazartesi gunleri 22de "tango saati" basliyormus
ve bir anda film degisti ve "Shall we dance?" Richard Gere- Jennifer Lopez
filmi devreye girdi
"Dans of Passion" basladi- ciftler dalgali denizde ucarcasina dans ettiler
ediyordu.
Yani film tekrar degisti ve Al Pacino'nun "Scent Of A Woman" Kadin Kokusu-
filmi basladi.
Biz saat 24te ayrilirken delikanli hala dans ediyordu.
CKM "Hayal Kahvesi" iste boyle bir yer- 4 film devamli, hangisi bitiyor-
hangisi basliyor belli degil, heran "backstage" icinde filmi yasiyorsunuz

I like the idea, but I would like to see it a little more fleshed out. I am not a great movie fan, so some of your allusions miss me. Maybe you want to describe what you are seeing and tell what scene of the movie it pulls you into or something for us pop culture dunces. There are both too few and too many details. The exact times and addresses are too much, it pulls us out of the story and into gritty realism. There is too little description of the club. Is it full of servicemen? Young people? Business people? Fashionable people? Old worn out drunks? Is it a place you would take your wife or hope she never found out that you went? What about the people? Was the blind man handsome or just nimble? Were the ladies mobbing him or waiting politely for their turn?
ReplyDeleteI am also a little puzzled by the colleagues that the letter is addressed to. It is a formal greeting for an informal heads up on a nice bar.
Paula
